Why these Guidelines matter
Gettit works because people trust each other. These Community Guidelines keep the marketplace safe, honest and welcoming. They sit alongside our Terms of Service and form part of your agreement with us, so breaking them can cost you a listing, a payout, or your account. Where these Guidelines and the Terms of Service cover the same ground, the Terms of Service prevail.
1. List honestly
- Use your own photos of the actual item. No stock images, and no photos that misrepresent condition.
- Describe the item accurately, including faults, wear and missing parts.
- Price and categorise items truthfully. Do not bait with one item and switch to another.
- Do not post misleading claims about an item's brand, authenticity, history or value.
2. Keep payments on Gettit
Never pay or accept payment off the Platform for a shipped order. If someone asks you to pay by bank transfer, gift card, cryptocurrency, or any method outside Gettit, it is almost always a scam, and it removes your Gettit Protection. The protected payment flow only works when the money runs through Gettit. Please report anyone who asks you to go off-platform.
3. Trade in good faith
- Sellers: pack shipped items well so they survive the trip, dispatch promptly with the prepaid Australia Post label within the dispatch window, and show up for the local handovers you agree to.
- Buyers: pay through Gettit, inspect the item on delivery, and confirm receipt or raise an issue within the window shown in the app. Please do not open dishonest disputes.
- Everyone: leave honest, fair reviews based on real transactions, and do not manipulate ratings.
4. Treat people with respect
Keep the community welcoming. We do not allow harassment, bullying, hate speech, discrimination, threats or abusive messages. We do not allow spam, unsolicited promotion, or off-topic or scam links in chat. Keep conversations about the item and the trade.
5. Do not sell what you should not
Prohibited and illegal items are not allowed. This includes weapons and regulated knives, drugs and paraphernalia, tobacco and vaping products, prescription medicines, live animals, stolen, counterfeit, recalled or unsafe goods, adult or sexual services, hazardous materials, and anything that infringes someone's rights or breaches Australian law. The full list and the binding position are in our Terms of Service.
Some goods must also meet mandatory Australian safety standards, and some are banned or recalled. This matters most for baby and children's items like cots, prams and toys, and for anything with button or coin batteries. Do not list an item that fails an applicable standard or has been recalled. If you are not sure, check the ACCC Product Safety website first, or ask us at help@gettit.com.au.
6. Protect children and vulnerable people
Gettit is for people aged 18 and over. Do not use the Platform if you are under 18, and do not involve a child in a transaction in a way that puts them at risk. We have zero tolerance for any content or conduct that exploits or endangers a child, and we will report it to the authorities.
7. Stay safe on local handovers
- Meet in a public, well-lit place, or use a parcel locker for shipped items to stay contactless.
- Bring someone with you if you can, and tell a friend where you are going.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, walk away.
- Remember that Gettit Protection does not apply to a local handover. See the Help Centre for our full safety guidance.
8. Protect privacy
Do not share another member's personal details, screenshots of private chats, or anyone's exact location. Gettit only ever shows an approximate, blurred area, so please keep it that way and do not try to identify where another member lives.
9. Report and block
Every listing and every member has a report option and a block option. Please use them if you see a scam, a prohibited item, abuse, harmful content, or anything that breaks these Guidelines. Reports are treated confidentially. Blocking stops someone from contacting you. For anything serious or unlawful, you can also contact our safety team at safety@gettit.com.au / help@gettit.com.au.
10. How we enforce these Guidelines
We moderate listings and chat, screen for fraud and off-platform-payment attempts, and act on reports. Depending on the seriousness of what we find, and the context, we may:
- give you a warning;
- remove a listing or other content;
- hold, reverse or withhold a payout in line with the Terms of Service;
- restrict or remove access to features; or
- suspend or close your account.
We aim to be fair and proportionate, and we consider context before we act. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you what has happened and why, and you can ask us to review a decision by contacting help@gettit.com.au. Serious or unlawful conduct may be reported to law enforcement or the relevant authorities, including the eSafety Commissioner where the Online Safety Act 2021 (Cth) applies.
11. If you are unsure
If you are not sure whether something is allowed, please ask first at help@gettit.com.au, or check the Help Centre at gettit.com.au/faq. We would much rather answer a question than see a member come unstuck.
The version of these Guidelines shown in the Gettit app is the same as the version published at gettit.com.au/legal/community_guidelines.
